BF2-Yeap...another interview:)

BF2.se has posted an english translation of the Gamesreactor interview with lead designer Lars Gustavsson.

You are going to introduce a online gaming community upon the release of BF2, could you explain a little about it?
When you register your copy of BF2 you will at the same time create a personal online-profile. This is the profile you will use to play with in BF2. The online community then logs all your statistics, and there is a lot of statistics, about 42 different types. All from how good you are from shooting with a handle weapon to how good of a medic you are. You will also get medals and other things. When you get better ranking you will be able to unlock totalu new weapons. There is a lot of being high rank in BF2.

BF2 Interview-AI info

BFaustralia.com have posted an interview with two lucky guys that played the game themselves. There is pleanty of information given and for the first time the AI capabilities are mentioned in single player.

Aliennation: I got to play against AI characters (bots) so it was quite hard, but I must say AI on the characters have been improved amazingly, they are like real players. Call for a pickup they'll pick you up, under fire they return with running for cover, and enemy AI is the most realistic I have seen in a game. The classes you can see have been taken from the mod desert combat with the old fashioned way of special forces engineers etc. A lot of improvements have been made to the weapon system. The weapons also jam too.

AA overmatch
[Dev]skyhuntr has posted a couple of very interesting posts in AA forums. Has put a date of summer 2005 for the highly anticipated overmatch. Overmatch is the coop mod of the AA game. He has also made a statement about hackers:

To the Player Community:

Devs at AAPA & AAGA are currently working this issue. I am privy to the efforts going on behind the scenes and they are extensive. We expect that you will see the results of these efforts soon.

In the meantime, please follow the procedures described in this forum to report known or suspected problems. They will be dealt with accordingly.

Hang in there, please be patient for a little while longer...the CAV is on the way.

BF2-yet another interview

The swedish site BF2.se has posted an interview with DICE's lead designer Lars Gustavsson.

Bf2.se: One member had a fun question about the damage system. He was wondering if you would be able to destroy the bands of the tanks to leave it at zero speed, but still being able to fire with it?
Lars:
We been talking a lot of this in the designer team and decided to not go that way. We like the idea of being able to go on a allied assault with a 10% tank when your friends got 100% without you being at any disadvantage. ( Except the fact that you are a pretty easy kill for the others )

BF2 Interview

An interview that slipped through my news radar. It's posted on the CVG site.

It has been an interesting road because the Battlefield fan enjoys realism in terms of the vehicles and kit. They don't care about the story that you wrap around it, but that M1 tank has to look like an M1 tank and we have to be aware of that and address it. You can't imagine, "That gun in that screen shot, is not correct," - these guys love the History Discovery channels, that's their bread and butter. But they grant us that we're not making a simulation and they'll accept the fact that for gameplay purposes, we'll tweak the realism. We'll make it look real as possible, but it's not going to play as real as possible. But the modders will take it there.
