Found in Digital Grenade there is a very interesting article about the motives behind the development of AA game (originaly posted here) In a posting deep inside the official America's Army Web site, the Army reveals that "players who request information (about the Army) ... may have their gaming records matched to their real-world identities for the purpose of facilitating career placement within the Army. Data collected within the game, such as which roles and missions players spent the most time playing could be used to highlight Army career fields that map into these interest areas ... BFcentral has posted an interview with DICE. Some quite intersting answers: [BFCentral.ca]: Are they going to allow all the dedicated servers to track stats in this global database? Or only the official ones like America's Army?
[DICE]: Only Official Ranked servers will track stats and unlocks. As it stands, if a BF2 player wants to earn their stripes, they'll need to play on an official ranked server. If they want to just play the game without the pressure of stats, promotions, etc...then they can play on a regular BF2 server. We went this route mainly because of security. People need to know that the Stats & Tracking system is secure in order for it to have value. Read the whole interview on our forums

Interview with Escalation Producer |
|
There is an interview with the head producer Joel Taubel of JO and Escalation, kind of reflecting on the Escalation's release. Source C&VG C&VG: Can you reassure fans that dirt bikes are a realistic component of modern warfare?
Joel Taubel: The bike we got the inspiration from is known in the United States Marine Corps as the M1030M1 (also known as the MILMO). It is a 650cc dirt bike that can run on diesel fuel.
It is capable of transporting two passengers and light cargo like documents. This motorcycle is able to run on diesel fuel at 120 miles per gallon.
It is used largely for light reconnaissance in real life, but we decided to give it a larger role as they are very fun to use.

AA interview with Dev Skippy |
|
Tonight there was an interview on irc with the exec dev Skippy of AA and 2 other developers. Nothing amazing came out of it, but I have lots of respect for companies and developers that they are answering questions in live interviews with the community especially when they are not getting paid directly from that community (or at least the non US players) Read the whole interview on our forum |

BF2 hands-on from Gamespy |
|
Gamespy has posted a hands on preview of BF2. The focus is mainly on the new commander squad structure of the game. A squad is a named group of about half a dozen players with a designated leader. All of a squad's headphones are tied together, so you can communicate easily as a group. The squad leader can also set goals through a simple on-screen command interface. Basically, he just presses the T key to bring up a circular menu of options, allowing him to quickly select one just by nudging the mouse and clicking. It's all context sensitive. If the Squad Leader looks at the ground and selects "move here," a smoke bomb will be set off on the ground and all the squad members will see the waypoint on the screen as well as a line to it on their mini-map. Different squad goals are available depending on what a squad leader clicks on -- clicking on an enemy held flag will allow him to give capture and hold orders, etc. Read the whole preview on our forum |

Interview with EA Producer Jamil Dawsari |
|
Total BF2 site has posted a small interview with an EA Producer. Jamil: We are shipping with Punkbuster, as this seems very effective in minimizing cheats. We are also including some new technology which should make hacking BF2 much more difficult. You'll understand if I don't go into too many details on this.
