Gamespot has posted a few renders and some more screenshots of BF2. They can be found at Totalbf2. Also, taken from the same site there is a preview of BF2 over at gamebiz.com Powered by a new engine, proprietary advanced physics engine that includes rag doll physics and material penetration players now in BattleField 2 can now fire through certain objects. For example if an enemy is taking cover behind a tin wall, you can fire straight through it. If you take a lot of fire your cover will slowly disintegrate and should provide some interesting tactical possibilities. Read the whole interview on our forums. |

A few more bits and pieces came out about BF2. Some new screenshots on the official BF2 webisite and also a few interviews/previews. Let's see some highlights: XG: Is there any target release date for Battlefield 2? Will we be able to see a public demo any time soon? Ben Smith: The final demo release date is TBD. Battlefield 2's release date is 2nd quarter 2005. Basically, the gameplay is going to be far broader - not to mention more tactical - than ever before, and this is where Battlefield 2 shows its strength. Desert Combat with better graphics it may be, but we all know this is exactly what the fans want. The resulting game, while not a revolution, can't fail to be great. Source: Computerandvideogames.com I apologize if my original email to Boomtown was not clear on ranks/unlocks/stats/Awards. If you put up a server you will still have access to ranks/unlocks/stats. So you can run around as a Sgt., use your unlocked weapons, and see your stats. This is an option that is open to the server admin and it is up to them.

Reality Friends Interview with Dice |
|
Recently, DICE was kind enough to agree to answer a few questions for us. Some quite interesting information came out of the interview: Q: Can you expand bit more about ranks/stats. The sound of it, reminds me a lot of the honor system in Americas Army. Here are some of my concerns: When the screen with the players on the server comes up, will you be able to see the rank of each player? Will the unlocked weapons be available only in official/rank servers? Will clans be able to lease official servers and will it only be one company's monopoly? What effect will that have for the private servers, since all the people will be playing in official/rank servers to get their rank up? A: That was a lot of questions: - You will be able to see the rank of everyone on both ranked and unranked servers. - Unlocks will only be available on the ranked servers. - As mentioned earlier, you will be able to lease official/rank servers. - We hope that will enjoy the game enough to play it both on ranked and non-ranked servers. Wolfgaming has a translation from a swedish site of an interview with Lars Gustavsson. Quite a large interview covering lots of things. The ability to get a "free ride" with vehicles has been there since Codename Eagle were the so called "wingwalking" quickly became a good way to get another companion in the plane. We are considering this when we are making Battlefield 2 but are trying to adjust it to the properties of modern vehicles'. Our motto has always been that it's supposed to be fun, so if the realism has to make way for better gameplay then the choice is not so tough. Where we finally end up in Battlefield 2 is something that we still work on today. Read the whole interview on our forums |

Official BF2 website has released a video with the first part of an interview with the lead producer and another clip with in game footage. Video links have been sent to the people that have subscribed to the BF2 newsletter. You can download them at TotalBF2. Also, TotalVideoGames has posted a Q&A with lead producer: Since Battlefield is a vehicle based game, the most apparent proof of the new physics system will be when you drive the different vehicles but also in other details like the new rag-doll system that allow a much clearer indication on whether you took out an enemy or not. The Battlefield games has never been about depicting war as ‘Saving Private Ryan' where gore and realism is key but rather as ‘Kellys Heroes' where fun and excitement is the key-focus. Then add to that all the military hardware that you find on one of the shows of the Discovery channel and you have Battlefield 2. Read the whole interview on our forums. |
